On 04 Dec 2009, FIFA and Host City Cape Town
welcomed football executives, representatives of the 32 qualifying teams,
international media and more than 8000 international and local visitors to experience
the Final Draw for the tournament at the Cape Town International Convention
Centre.
The Final Draw Event, which was to be aired in 200 countries by more than 100
broadcasters, had football fans around the world glued to their screens as the
match order for the qualifying teams is announced. It was be a memorable event
in Africa’s first World Cup. The media exposure for this event will only be
equalled by the final match of the FIFA 2010 World Cup and was broadcast by
more than 100 broadcasters; it is was watched by approximately 1.5-billion
people worldwide.
It was under this backdrop that NTB
endeavoured to showcase Namibia to the world in a 100% experiential medium. The
anchor feature was an art and photographic exhibition by four photographers:
Jean Du plessis, Paul Van Schalk Wyk, Tony Figuerra and Hans Rack all experts
at capturing Namibian landscapes, animals and people.
Contemporarily styled, the exhibit took each
visitor on a journey through Namibia, with each visitor on a journey through
Namibia, affording them the opportunity to appreciate the the authentic beauty
that is the land of the brave. Visitors were able to taste Namibia by sampling
Namibian meat, an unrivalled variety of game biltong and our internationally
acclaimed award winning Windhoek Lager as well as our newly established Camel
thorn beer. Music by proudly Namibian artists will provide immense pleasure to
African music lovers and the magnificent landscape, people and wildlife
photography, coupled with unique, arts and crafts, affords the visitor an
opportunity to experience Namibia.
Namibian born Michelle Mclean also joined
forces with the Namibia Tourism Board and “kicked off” the festivities with the
Gala Dinner on 6th December 2009 with a showcase of the Michelle Mclean
Children’s Trust at the expo.
The event was attended by FIFA delegates and
hundreds of international media who were attending the international
broadcaster’s conference during that time.
Competitions were also run during that time,
winners walked away with a 12 day fully sponsored trip to Namibia, a four day
trip to Namibia ad kiddies camping hampers!
To capture the spirit of 2010 NTB
recently hosted a 2010 media day Namibian Media, to interact and share
information with the media, with regards to all executed activities thus far
and up coming activities for 2010.
The 2010 Media day provided the opportunity
to not only share information and educate on upcoming activities but to launch
the 2010 website!
Held at “These Hands lounge” the day was
focused on sharing information and allowing media the opportunity to ask
questions, and be involved in creating excitement about 2010.The event was full
of adventurous 2010 spirit and embodied the excitement involved in the world
cup.The event was and was filled with the spirit
of adventure!
Members of the media and NTB participated in
the Zip line activity:
The “be local” Zip Lines consist of two
lines. The first line is a length of 500m suspended approximately 120m in the
air from the lowest point. The second line is a length of 400m also suspended
approximately 120m in the air from the lowest point. These 2 lines are
suspended between two mountain tops on the southern side of Windhoek in the Aus
Mountains. This is definitely a thrilling experience!!
